Review by Keith Robinson (November 1, ) House-at-the-Corner (as the house is named) is a lively place headed by a successful and much-respected surgeon, Mr John Farrell. He earns enough that his family need not worry about financial matters. His stay-at-home wife, Lucy, is a bit of an air-head and is far too easy on her five children, especially Pam and Tony. The Farrell family is portrayed at the end of House-at-the-Corner as Enid Blyton's conception of the ideal family — ironically as the sort of family which she, herself, at least in her childhood, never experienced — and it shows, too, all the unhappiness and bitterness which may result when a family is divided against itself. Clearly direction must come from the parents if things are going to run smoothly and there is to be a happy, stable and secure family home. The House at the Corner will feel familiar to anyone who's read a few of Blyton's family or school stories. In it we meet a group of siblings each with a gift: one ambitious and clever; one popular and amusing; a self-deprecating writer; and two twins solemnly dedicated to gardening and nature.
